Indian movies, TV commercials, TV
dramas (Indian, Pakistani and Turkish) etc. are all giving a very clear message
to young blood of the nation, that if you don't have a girl friend, your
life sucks... it’s interesting to compare the theme of dramas coming on
various TV channels during prime time and the ads which comes in between... the
story in dramas shows horrifying, painful situation, full of miseries post marriage scenario; on the contrary the TV commercials mostly presents a very colorful and
enchanting relationship of a boy & girl who are of course not married... they
play, dance, giggle, and do all kind of fun whereas the characters in dramas
are shown to be in real trouble, crying most of the time with a intensely
depressing background music... the subliminal message received is clear... "Don't get married as life before it is
full of fun, enjoyment and joyful pleasures, not after that"...
Sometime back it was noted in a
TV report that mothers of Bollywood are now replaced with Sheela, Muni and
Jalebi Bai... and it is not hard to imagine how they inspire the young to shape
their ideals now ...
"Bollywood's show of
solidarity for rape victim is impressive. They should also see the contribution
of their filthy movies in the incident?" This is a recent tweet by Mr.
Khalid Zaheer, a scholar, with whom I seldom agrees, however he couldn't
be more correct on this one.
The free sex culture, to bluntly
say it, promoted by media as a whole, splits majority of its viewers among
those who are in relationship with someone, and those who cannot possible have
one mostly because of their low economic profile etc. It is no rocket science
to imagine the possibility of frustration which would develop among the second
group when they would see those who have someone with them.
This is not a justification,
rather explanation of what could happen when population frustrated with lots of
different problems might expel it out on some vulnerable women in his easy access. It is
reported that 80% of the women are known to the attacker, and many are in
relationship with them as well.
On academic grounds the theory
to link increasing frustration with increasing sexual harassment might be
challenged. And obviously different societies with different, cultural,
religious backgrounds would react differently to the bombardments of obscenity through mass media, however one cannot rule out the possibility of a shift in
values which might turn things ugly even for a few more women in the country...
If someone doesn’t like the
conservative environment here then he may leave and go to a place where such a filthfull environment is found. There is a strong rational to resist the change... how
can anyone justify and on what grounds that a liberal social order which the
media is hell bent to bring in would be better in any ways from the
conservative and traditional one? What western societies has achieved really by
promoting the freedom as an ideal at individual and social level? What impact
it has brought on their family system, on individual psychological health? Is
that impact acceptable by any standard?
These are important questions.
Unfortunately without pondering on them and their possible answers, and
evaluating the pros & cons of the possible ... the
so called change is being shoved down the throats of masses since many
generations. However the recent exponential increase is surprising many.
Mind it that there is no
justification of various other crimes against women like domestic violence, Karo Kari, Honor killings, marrying very
young girls with Quran or with very old men, etc. But what good is a so called solution if it takes the women to some other kind
of ugly problem… Islam gives rights to women and that’s definitely a better
choice than getting them out in the market in the name of liberalization while
stripping them with respect and dignity. The four times higher number of women
converting to Islam in the west while leaving their liberal traditions is a
proof.
The response of social media to
condemn it all is again appreciable, and it is heartening to see the level of
resistance it has been offering to every mainstream activity at all levels. But
there is a vast majority in this country which doesn't have access to social
media and can subsequently get influenced.
Like blocking of porno
websites, perhaps some out of proportion incident would wake up CJ someday to
take a suo motu action to block all the vulgarity and obscenity to save the youth from
further degeneration... one can only hope and pray that such action is taken
soon.

it reflects reality, totally agreed but it doesn't seem to stop, like its beginning in Pakistan same was in turkey and in 5 years it reshaped their society, and western trends are a part of their lives now, Media can be stopped through Force, a strong action is required that creates an example, word wont matter now. what's your opinion
ReplyDeleteMr. Anonymous No 1, Media can not be stopped through force but by voicing up the agenda together by million of people. but there is simpilar solution too, throw out your TV.
