TO WHOM IS THE PROMISED LAND?

‘On that day, the Lord made a covenant with Abraham saying: “To your descendants I give this Land from the river of Egypt, the great river, the river of Euphrates.”

(Gen 15:18)

The Jews, Christians, and Muslims have all been claiming proprietary interest in the Promised Holy Land. The followers of all three great religions have fought wars over it in the past and again it is a bone of contention between them. The history of the last 4000 years is a living testimony to this great Biblical prophesy. The question remains: To whom is the Promised Land (Palestine)? It is actually promised to that faction of Abraham's Faith which possesses the ‘Word of God' in its purest form and is prepared to apply it in its totality.

Introduction

The Divine-human story on this planet starts with Adam and Eve and later on with Noah. A more elaborate program, however, began with Abraham. According to the Old Testament, Abraham under God's Command shifted his family from his home area Ur (Iraq) to Canaan (Palestine). He settled his younger son Isaac here to preach the Word of God. He appointed his nephew Lot at Sodom for the same purpose. Similarly he left his eldest son Ishmael in the desert of Beersheba and according to Arab traditions in the Arabian Desert.

Abraham besides establishing his family in these areas also travelled to Egypt. Evidently he and the members of his family must have carried out the divine scheme to all these places. Lot's nation was however destroyed on account of their shameful acts. Through Isaac and Ishmael are the followers of the great religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). Followers of these religions claim their spiritual source to Abraham's faith and tradition. The three religions have some kind of uniformity in their basic beliefs and doctrines vis-à-vis Oneness of God, Torah Law, Life Hereafter, concepts of Heaven and Hell. In details however they differ with another, but there are doctrinal differences even within each one of them.

In recognition of his faith, untiring efforts (works), sacrifice of his son under God's command, Abraham was acclaimed in the Bible as ‘The Father of all families of the world to get blessing through him' (Gen 12:1-3). The Quran also elevated Abraham for the same reasons and has commended him as the ‘Leader of Mankind, Chosen in the World' (2:124-30) and ‘Friend of God' (4:125).

God finally made a covenant with Abraham and promised to give the land of Canaan to the descendants of Abraham who would follow the Biblical Laws and the Commandment. This Covenant, in the form of prophesy, has been repeated more than any other prophesy in the Bible. Various aspects of the PL are repeatedly mentioned for over 80 times, covering over 300 verses in the first 6 books of the Old Testament – (NRSV-1990). The Prophesy does not appear in figurative form like other prophesies in the Bible, rather the prophesy of the Promised Land is well defined and elaborated in terms of space and time and specified with a Mark or Symbol of the Covenant.

It is in this context that Jews, Christians, and Muslims have been claiming proprietary interest in the Promised Holy Land. The followers of all these great religions have fought wars over it in the past and again it is a bone of contention between them. The history of the last 4000 years, given in chronological order is a living testimony to this great Biblical prophesy (see Table A). The possession and dispossession of the Promised Land is however directly related with the fulfillment or failure to fulfill the Covenant made between God and Abraham.

The Convenant

The Promised Land: The Covenant Began With Abraham

“On that Day, the Lord made a Covenant with Abram (Abraham), saying: ‘To your descendants I give this Land, from the river of Egypt, to the great river, the river of Euphrates.'” (Gen 15:18)

The Covenant is repeated with:

Isaac:

The Lord appeared to Isaac and said:

“Do not go to Egypt… for to you and to your descendants, I will give all the lands, and I will fulfil the Oath that I swore to your father, Abraham.” (Gen 26:2-3)

Jacob:

“God appeared to Jacob… God said to him, “ I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply… The land that I gave to Abraham and Isaac I will give to you, and I will the land to your offspring after you.” (Gen 35:9-12)

Moses:

“Then the Lord said (to Moses): I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt… and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the Country of the Canaanites…” (Exod 3:7-8)

Joshua:

“After the death of Moses… the Lord spoke to Joshua… Now proceed to cross the Jordan (river), you and all these people (Israelites)… into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites… I have given to you, as I promised to Moses, from the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates…' (Gen 1:1-4)

Possession of the Promised Land is Perpetual

“And I will give to you and to your offspring after you… all the land of Canaan for a perpetual holding…” (Gen 17:8)

Jacob said to Joseph:

“God Almighty appeared to me… and said to me,… I will make of you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your offspring after you for a perpetual holding.” (Gen 48:3-4)

“… for all the land that you see, I will give to your offspring, forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth.” (Gen 13:15)

The Bible specifies that the possession of the Promised Land is conditional i.e. linked with the observance of Law.

Convenant is Conditional

Observance of Laws & Statutes

“…for to you and to your descendants I will give all these Lands and I will fulfill the oath that I swore to your father Abraham – because Abraham obeyed My Voice, and kept my Charge, my Commandments, my Statutes, and my Laws.”(Gen 26:3-5)

“Keep his statutes and his Commandments, which I am commanding you today for your own well-being and that of your own descendants after you, so that you may long remain in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for all time.” (Deut 4:40)

“The Lord spoke to Moses saying: … You shall keep all my statutes and all my ordinances, and observe them, so that the land to which I bring you to settle in may not vomit you out.” (Levi 20:1,22)

Moses charged the people… “Cursed be anyone who does not uphold the words of this Law by obeying them.” (Deut 27:11,26)

The Covenant includes circumcision as a mark that shows agreement or acceptance of the terms of Covenant as follows:

Circumcision, a Sign of the Convenant

“You shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin and it shall be a sign of the Covenant between Me and you.” (Gen 17:10-11)

The significance of the circumcision as a mark of the Covenant can well be imagined from the following verses:

“Abraham was ninety nine years old when he was circumcised… and his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when he was circumcised… and all the men of his house slaves born in the house and those bought with money from a foreigner were circumcised with him” (Gen 17:24-27)

Importance of the circumcision in respect of the Covenant is further elaborated from the divine warning:

“An uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people, for he has broken My Covenant.” (Gen 17:14)

It is manifestly clear that Abraham's descendants if follow the Biblical Law, Statutes, and Commandments, only then God will fulfill His part of the Covenant i.e. grant them the possession of the Promised Land, (an area from the river of the Nile to the river of the Euphrates) as a perpetual holding.

The Convenant is Yet to be Fulfilled

‘Whatever has been written in the article, if it is wrong, disregard it—but if it has some Truth, then ponder over it.'

The three factions of Abraham's faith failed to fulfill their part of the Covenant. As such they could not possess the PL on permanent basis. The reasons of failure although different in each case, yet they somehow concern the scripture.

The case of Muslims is simpler but more unfortunate. Out of the 1400 years history, Muslims enjoyed the full possession of the PL for over 1284 years (634-1918 AD). During the 19 th century, they replaced the Biblical (or Quranic) Laws with the secular European Laws. (Hamdard Islamicus – Shariah in the XV Cent. Hijra Vol. III No. 4, p.25). Hence in the early part of the 20 th Century, Muslims lost the PL to the UNO mandated, Israel.

The Jews, out of the 3400 years history, possessed the PL partially and only for about 370 years as sovereign ruler. Although their total stay in the PL with intermittent devastation of the country, destruction of the temple (twice), and deportation (twice) by neighboring nations was 702 years.

The Jews even during the David-Solomon rule never reached the banks of the rivers Nile and the Euphrates as prophesied in the Covenant. The Israelites' mindset was a continuation of the ‘deceitful' and unrepented episodes, associated with their forefather, Jacob. Since the original scripture was lost, there is no way to cross-check the authenticity of these episodes. (e.g.: Exploiting his brother Easu's hunger, cheating his blind father, and wrestling with God—Genesis Chap: 25, 27 & 32). Israel's subsequent coming to the PL has met the same fate. Their current occupation of the part of the PL under geopolitical and oil expediencies may not last long. Jesus has already prophesied a worse and the ‘ultimate' for them.

‘You snakes, you brood of vipers! How can you escape being sentenced to Hell' (Matt 23:33)

‘You (Israelites) make new converts twice as much a child of Hell as yourselves.' (Matt 23:15)

The Jews' dispossession of the PL was wholly and solely on moral grounds. Their immoral disposition has been lamented by all the books of the OT. Jews, however, have never been criticized or condemned for doctrinal deviation. In fact, Jews' Faith had exactly been in accordance with the OT creeds and concepts. It was only in practice that they had betrayed the Scripture. This is confirmed in the N.T. where Jesus said to his disciples:

‘The scribes and Pharisees sit on Moses seat, therefore do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach.' (Matt 23.2)

Christians in the PL, under the Roman Empire, remained a persecuted community for 300 years. After the Roman emperors started embracing Christianity in 313 AD, they inherited the PL and were amongst the ruling class for 254 years. As soon as Islam emerged in Arabia, the PL was taken over by Muslims in 634 AD. Out of the 2000 years history, the 254 years stay of Christians in the PL reflects their failure to fulfill the Covenant. The probable cause of their failure is not moral but doctrinal.

The Christians converted the OT Doctrine of the Unity of God into the Trinity. They also replaced Moses Law into a single commandment of ‘Love'. (Gal 5.14) ¹. Although Jesus had defined ‘Love' as a greater commandment and not the only commandment (Mark 12:31). Jesus was emphatic to maintain the Prophets' Law (Matt 5:17-18). The departure from the OT doctrines disqualified Christianity to possess the PL for any meaningful period or purpose.

Christians Scholars however advocate that the Covenant will be fulfilled for everlasting possession during the second coming of Jesus (Rev. 11:15). Both Christians and Muslims have been yearning for Jesus' second coming. Although the Quran is silent about it, yet some traditions do prophesize about the second coming with no specific time of arrival. The New Testament is emphatic about it but with conflicting time of arrival.

‘Truly, I tell you, there one some standing here who will not taste death before they see the son of man coming in his Kingdom.' (Matt 16:28 I Thess 4:15-18)

‘But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of Heaven, nor the son but only the father—therefore you also must be ready, for the son of man to be coming at the unexpected hours. (Matt 24:44)

‘Truly, I tell you, there one some standing here who will not taste death before they see the son of man coming in his Kingdom.'

(Matt 16:28 I Thess 4:15-18)

‘But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of Heaven, nor the son but only the father—therefore you also must be ready, for the son of man to be coming at the unexpected hours.

(Matt 24:44)

The deadline in the first verse has expired long ago. The other date is uncertain. Unless Jesus is accompanied by a Divine force to exercise his authority on the people and on the land, his acceptance and identification by people will also be uncertain. The three Faiths and their hundreds of denominations are expecting Jesus to appear in accordance with their respective set of doctrines and creeds which are not based on Scripture or reasoning, but on traditions. Reason and logic hardly work in religion. Martin Luther is said to have said:

‘Faith must trample under foot all reasoning, sense, and understanding.'

The scriptures however project reasoning (wisdom) as the basis of everything. According to the Old Testament:

‘The Lord created me (wisdom) at the beginning of His Work, the first of His acts long ago.' (Prov 8:22)

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had said:

‘Reason is the noblest creation of God.'

God suggests that even His revelation should not be taken blindly:

‘Do they not ponder on the Quran or are their hearts locked up by them?' (The Quran 47:24)

‘(This is) a Book that we have revealed unto thee, full of blessing that they may meditate its revelation and that men of understanding may reflect.' (The Quran 38:29)

Understanding is the basis of Faith according to the Quran while truthfulness is the criterion for salvation. On the Day of Judgment, God will declare:

‘This is the Day on which the Truthful will profit from their Truth.' (The Quran 5:119)

Reason and Truth are the key factors in all worldly development, but in religion, traditions and emotions are the leading parameters. Traditions dilute the scriptural injunctions. It has ultimately led to mushroom of religious denominations. A small population of Jews (app. 13 million) in the world has 88 sects. (Grace Halsell – ‘Journey to Jerusalem').

Because of the integrity of the Quran (since the Prophet's days), religious denominations in Islam could not ripe inspite of the bigotry efforts by many. The only two so-called sects, Shia and Sunni, in Islam are not on doctrinal basis but grew on political ground.

Amongst Christians, the denominational differences are more in number and intensity. A Christian Mormon document estimates ‘over 20,000 Churches on the earth, each with its own doctrines and beliefs.' (Dennis K. Brown – ‘It Makes Sense', p. 2). The estimate seems to be on the higher side. But certainly there are hundreds of sectarian churches in the world, if not thousands. This is inspite of Inquisition (Judicial elimination of sectarian differences) and the thirty years war between the Catholics and the Protestants in Europe (1618-48). In the absence of the (original) Gospel of Jesus, the traditions have played a major role in the proliferation of the Churches. The other facts are:

• Delayed compilation of the four Gospels by the disciples and others i.e. from 50 - 100 years after Jesus' death;


• Assembly and identification of the New Testament in the 4 th century; and


• Production of the authorized English version of the Bible (King James Version) in the 16 th century, containing thousands of errors.

The result of the first revision of the King James Version (KJV), published in 1881, by the convocation of Canterbury, through a Committee comprising 47 scholars of major denominations reads as under:

‘Over 30,000 changes were made, of which more than 5000 represent differences in the Greek text from that used as the basis of the King James Version…. (Enc. Brit. Ed XV, Vol. 2, p.891)

Since then, four more Versions have been made (The English Revised Version, American Standard Version, Revised Standard Version, and New Revised Standard Version) up to 1990. The exercise continues in search of the original Scripture. But in the mean time, the KJV with, on average, ten ‘differences' on each page of a 500-page New Testament remains the most popular version in the Christian world. The so called ‘differences' have been called ‘grave mistakes' and ‘serious defects' in the RSV and the NRSV respectively.

Above is the quantitative discrepancy in the New Testament.

Sir Fredrick Kenyon, the Former Director British Museum, comments on the qualitative inaccuracy of the New Testament as under:

‘For 1400 years, the New Testament had been handed down in manuscript, copy being taken from copy in a long succession through the centuries, each multiplying and spreading errors… the first printed text was made from a mere handful of manuscripts and those some of the latest and least trustworthy that existed.

The result is that the text accepted in the 16 th and 17 th centuries, to which---we have learnt as those of the Word of God, is in truth full of inaccuracies…'

Professor Bart D. Ehrman, Chairman Dept. of Religious Studies, University of N. Carolina at Chapel Hill, comments on the Greek text, the basis of the New Testament as under:

“The reality is that we don't have originals… Not only do we not have originals, we don't have the first copies of the originals. We don't have even copies of the copies of the originals, or copies of the copies of the copies of the originals. What we have are copies made later—much later. In most instances they are copies made many centuries later. And these copies all differ from one another in so many places that we don't even know how many differences there are. Possibly it is easiest to put it in comparative terms: ‘there are more differences among our manuscripts than there are words in the New Testament.'”

From the above statements, four questions arise:

• Why did God Almighty not preserve His Scripture miraculously as He had earlier revealed it supernaturally?
  
  
• Was God not aware that His Chosen People have been maintaining an inaccurate Scripture throughout these centuries?


• Should God leave the world without authentic Divine Guidance?


• Was God not capable of revealing another Scripture for the guidance of mankind, and protecting it for all times to come?
  

God Almighty, All-Knowledgeable, has done exactly the same.

The Last Testament:

Six hundred years after Jesus, another Scripture, the Quran, was revealed to Prophet Muhammad, a descendant of Abraham, through his eldest son Ishmael. The Quran is the unique Scripture in the world, which is intact since it was revealed 1400 years ago. Quran's date and place of revelation and compilation are well known. It has no version and its ancient manuscripts have no variations. Quran's master copies sent to new areas of Islamic influence are still available in the museums of Istanbul, Tashkent, and Cairo. Above all the safety of the Quran has been guaranteed by the Almighty God Himself:

“We have assuredly sent down the message and We will assuredly guard it.” (The Quran 15:9)

“No falsehood can approach it from before or behind it: it is sent down by One full of Wisdom, Worthy of praise.” (The Quran 41:42)

The Quran recognizes most of the Biblical Prophets, their Scriptures (Torah, Gospel, & Psalm), as well as the great miracles of Moses & Jesus.

Surprisingly, God discouraged Prophet Muhammad's desire for having (Moses' like) miracles (The Quran 6:35). On the contrary, God presented His Scripture (The Quran) as the miraculous Book and has challenged mankind repeatedly:

“And if you are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to our servant, then produce a Chapter like thereunto and call your witnesses or helpers apart from Allah.” (The Quran 2:23)

For an ordinary reader, like me, this seventh Century Book (The Quran), which highlights various aspects of God (e.g.: Creation of Universe, development of life on this Planet, growing of foetus in mother's womb etc etc) reveals, miraculously, modern scientific knowledge that is understood only in the 18 th and 19 th centuries.

The other group of miraculous Quranic verses is the Prophesies especially concerning Abraham's descendants. Jesus Christ had earlier prophesied Hell punishment to the Israelites. The Quran has prophesied God's wrath on the Jews throughout their worldly life:

“Behold! Your Lord did declare that He would send against them (the Israelites), to the Day of Judgment, those who would afflict them with grievous penalty… We broke them up into sections on earth…” (The Quran 7:167-168)

“Behold! Allah said: ‘O Jesus! I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you (of the falsehood) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow you superior to those who reject faith to the Day of Resurrection.” (The Quran 3:55)

History is the witness that despite their natural pursuits and intellectual interests, the political scenario of the Israelites (Jewish community) has been a manifestation of the Quranic Prophesy during all this period.

History all witnesses that no group of Abraham's descendants has monopoly of the PL. Possession of the PL is a divine phenomenon. Whosever rediscovers the ‘Word of God' in the purest form and is determined to apply it in its totality will be bestowed upon the PL.

Digging for facts is wiser than jumping to conclusions.

DEMOCRACY?

40% of the population is eligible, among those 60% participates, among those 35% votes goes to winner, 30% to the runnerup and 25% to the 3rd candidate .... this makes 0.4 x 0.6 x 0.35 = 0.084 x 100 = 8.4% of the population deciding for the rest because they were either fooled by the demogogy or threathened by the winner ... The Governments, The Economy, The Media ... All in the Light of The Protocols

There have been many attempts to discount The Protocols as a fraud, and the fact remains that there is no documentary proof that the Protocols of the Elders of Zion are what they say they are. Allegations of forgery and fraud have dogged their public history. However, despite many opinions to the contrary, the documents have never been categorically proved to be fraudulent. The fact also remains that since the apparent publication, world events have unfolded exactly according to their description – surely this should be proof enough that a plan such as the Protocols exists?

M. Henry Ford, in an interview published in the New York World, February 17, 1921, put the case for the Protocols tersely and convincingly thus:

We are gradually being mobilized into a New World Order. The One World Government is being facilitated by the gradual movement of nation states into larger power blocks such as the European Union and NAFTA etc. The United Nations has come into power as a global police force under the excuse of being a protector and benefactor of the world, exactly as outlined in the Protocols. The Jews have symbolically “returned to Palestine”, as the State of Israel now exists as the official universal “homeland” of all Jews, despite the vast majority of Jews having no racial connection with Israel whatsoever.

It is my belief that rather than being the plan of Jewish leaders to control the world as many believe, this document is really the Grand Plan to create the One-World Government, Economy, and Satanic religion known as the New World Order. The reason it was written as a thin veneer of a Jewish conspiracy to conquer the world for their Messiah, was so that the document would be thoroughly discredited, and forgotten. Once the vast numbers of the peoples of the world had discredited the Protocols, the Grand Plan could be used quite freely as a blueprint on how to achieve global government, religion, and economy.

When Americans stared in sheer terror at the crumbling of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, they began to close their eyes to everything except what our government and the Mass Media wanted them to believe. Even now, in “fear and trembling, they will close their eyes to everything, and be content to await what will be the end of it all”. Just as the Guiding Spirits of The Protocols envisioned, Americans are closing their collective eyes, gladly trading liberties for “promised peace and safety”. However, Bush-Ashcroft seized upon their role in the final push for world government — Global Terrorism. The Power of a Cooperative Press — The Mass Media

Every American needs to understand that the entire national press is controlled, and is simply giving you the “news” you are supposed to have. Very soon, all alternative sources of news, including this website, will be shut down. That time draws ever closer.

Now, you know why the Sunday Morning TV programming is full of “Talking Heads” that so fill the airwaves with opinions on everything, so that the average person is completely bewildered as to what is the truth! When you combine the power of Rhetoric, above, with the discussion of the Mass Media role, you can understand better the part of the plan coming up next:

The Reality of Lays Chips Controversy !!!

The controversy about “Lays” turned into a new shape after the recent launch of Junaid Jamshed (JJ)’s new TVC where he is endorsing Lays brand as free from any suspicious ingredients in Islamic Perspective. In TVC he is talking about “vegetable oil” where as issue is entirely different.

Before his impressive conversion towards Islamic perspective & lifestyle, JJ was supposed to be a brand ambassador for Pepsi. He has a strong relationship with Tahir Khan who is owner of Interflow, the advertisement agency of Pepsi Pakistan. According to my sources JJ was contacted by Tahir Khan & he pushed him to come up in the TVC. Considering his long relationship with Tahir sb & proofs presented by Pepsi, JJ was convinced that Lays are Halal. Basically he was the person who advised Tahir sb to take the advise from South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA).

But when the TVC went on air someone informed him about daily Ummat researches. So he personally contacted to Ummat office & Saeed Ahmed Abassi (who had done the research),they clarified him about the whole scenario. He was worried & said that he will see what he can do now, but he left for Morocco with tableeghi Jamaat. I don’t know when he will come back & what he will do. But before appearing in any ad he should have consulted with some reputable scholars regarding the issue.

It looks that now it’s the direct unmatched competition between a multinational company (which has huge promotional budgets with a very active advertising agency(Interflow) that has its own radio station & two TV channels , PR agency & many more ) & Daily Ummat (who has the second largest reader base of Karachites only ) who is leading the story against Lays.
In search of reality I came across many websites & blogs. Interestingly most of the websites & specially blogs have the same information which is provided by Pepsi company itself. E.g.

But what is the reality? Is it still controversial? see the following
1) The controversy starts from the code “E631”. Pepsi claims that (Source : http://i41.tinypic.com/20shs5.gif )
“In fact the E-631 used by LAYS Pakistan is derived from TAPIOCA STARCH, a plant based raw material which has been certified Halaal.”

The problem is clear Pepsi (Miss Saima Arshad- R&D Manager) is claiming that E631 (which produces flavors in Lays Chips) is extracted from TAPIOCA STARCH plant.
Wikipedia is saying that this is a flavorless plant, so how a flavorless product can produce flavor in chips. Wikipedia also confirmed that E631 is extracted from bovine sources specially from pigs & fishes.
So the situation is clear Pepsi management is misguiding the people

3) Pepsi also claims that they get the ingredient from “International flavor & fragrance Inc.” .

4) According to daily Ummat IFF, Pakistan chapter office which is located in Kashif center – Karachi (near Hockey club of Pakistan) denied any supply of any thing by the name of E631 to Pepsi. “Central Islamic committee of Thailand” works under the ministry of culture in Thailand. There are three states where Muslims are in majority i.e. Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat. In 2005, muslims in Southern Thailand made up 30.4% of population above the age 15, while less than 3% in other parts of the country.
Muslims in Thailand used the products of Indonesia & Malaysia as the Thailand administration encouraged pig farming. Muslims of Thailand have doubts on the products, so to tackle this issue Thai govt. developed that institute but most of the Muslims don’t trust on that body.

5) Jamia Ashrafia is also refuting from issuing the certificate of Halal products to Lay’s. According to them “A Conditional Certificate had been issued that “If there is no Pig Particle added in the products, then it is Halal otherwise it is Haram and according to Jamia Ashrafia, “Lay’s Company is misusing that conditional certificate. 6) Company is also giving the reference of “The South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA)”. I am really surprised why Pepsi is not giving any reference of local authority.
So the conclusion is that every thing is not “clear” from LAYS & we have a few ”doubts”. They need to clear their position. As far as I am concerned, PBUH advised us that “leave those things which have doubts” & doubts are clearly open & obvious for LAYS chips.

People's Republic of United States

The United States comprises approximately 4.5% of the world’s population and consumes 25% of the world resources. According to the US department of Commerce, the 2008 deficit on international trade in goods and services was $677.1 billion. This is down from $700.3 billion in 2007 but still 4.7 percent of GDP. In order to cover the deficit of past years US has borrowed $ 11.338 Trillion from international sources. According to IMF report US Per Capita income for 2008 was estimated to be $ 47,000 compared to Congo with $328.

In an ideal world, with 4.5% of world’s population US should be consuming same amount or at the most 5% of world resources. Higher consumption of world’s resources was justified because of higher GDP and Per Capita income. In fact it was not the real wealth which pushed the US Per Capita income and GDP. It was result of manipulation by creating money which does not involve production of goods or provision of services and still adds up the GDP and Per Capita figures. The very basis of a capitalist economy!

For decades US has been cheating the world with shadow economic system in order to keep consuming more then it produces. The World was made to believe that Capitalism and so called free market economy is the engine behind prosperity. US did produced good, provided services and traded domestically and internationally. But the wealth generated through these activities is not that huge to bring its GDP that high. Based on real businesses their GDP might not sustain the repayment of $11.39 Trillion debts alone.

The US trade deficit being calculated as 4.7 percent of GDP might swell to 50% or even higher, in case calculated on basis of real business. What has sustained this manipulation is genius gambling on their indices. The Super rich, who run the scams like stock markets, hedge funds, currency exchanges and commodity markets managed to inflate the size of GDP and added in Per Capita. They are truly rich; they own private jets and islands. They earned huge profits and also earned big for their depositors to spend. This money is created without producing any goods or providing services. The money made through these activates is real and available to spend, thus adding to GDP.

Money earned from stock market has nothing to do with the real business of the corporation. Still one can make huge profits trading stocks. In fact 300 out of top 500 rich in US in 2007 were ‘traders’. The dividend paid to investors is very small, if the money is invested in real business. If a stock is trading at $ 1 a 10% dividend would be 10 cents. But if stock prices rises due to higher demand and goes to $10, the investor earns huge profits of 900%. Very easy to manipulate if you have money to do so – system provides the opportunity. The money earned from that activity does not involve any economic activity; it is simply a result of artificially created demand or supply or gambling. A stock selling 40 times the price of company’s projected profit is still thought to be normal. The size of markets is several times higher than the real value of the companies listed on stock market.

The markets are another type of casinos’. This gambling continuously ‘creates’ money and is available to spend. The money created from these ‘non business’ tactics keeps GDP and per capita figures higher. Hedge Funds are the major players manipulating markets. Around 8,000 Hedge Funds manage a total of $620 TRILLION. With such huge funds in their hands they can manipulate the prices and earn huge profits, thus returning their investors even up to 100% profits. The tax havens exempt them from submitting the accounts of their shady ‘businesses’.

Banks are also allowed to lend more than they actually posses. Sometimes it is ten times more than their deposits money. This enables them to earn much more than their investor’s deposits. Banking system allows Hedge Funds to borrow 30 times more than the money their investors have deposited with them. Even after paying bank interests, they, earns them huge profits. The extra money earned is not real simply because it is ‘created’ by Banks and hedge funds. Unlike the real wealth that involves production of goods and services which enable the circulation in society like blood circulates in our veins.

Similarly, banks would lend many times more then its deposits for currency trading, another non-business contributor in to GDP of US. This further involves trading ‘non-existent’ money. The huge lending enables traders to manipulate price and create huge returns. In a real business the profits would not be that great as in financial markets. The currency trade is estimated to be 25 times of world trade, so are the profits and manipulation. Then there are pyramid schemes like ENRON and Bernard Madoff, who were only exposed when $50 Billion were lost. They pay returns to investors’ money without any business activity; these ‘profits’ also add in to GDP.

Hedge Funds and Currency Traders can borrow 30 times more than investor deposits they earn huge profits. But so are the losses. The present crisis began when Hedge Funds were out of money as they lost many time more than their assets but were continuously paying their investors with huge returns to get more deposits and borrow 30 times more from banks. The extra losses were from the money borrowed from Banks. The Banks had lent several times more money for gambling than their depositor’s money. This pushed Banks in to Bankruptcy. The insurance companies which used to provide insurance cover to these banks on various instruments also became the victims as the losses exceed their total assets.

This entire cycle of ‘creating money’ out of thin air and adding to Per Capita income and GDP has created a ‘fake demand’ for goods and services. If the profits from these ‘artificial’ money schemes (several times the real GDP) are deducted from GDP figures, per capita income would be considerably lower. Since these profits ‘created’ out of no real activity are disappearing, there is less money available to be spent. This is pushing the legitimate production base to layoffs, which are further adding in to less demand. The entire infrastructure built on ‘plastic money’ through credit cards, which itself is not the money available with banks also fueled the demand. Since it is shrinking, it will further push down the ‘real-business’ as demand shrinks.

In ‘real-business’ world US economy might less than half the stated figures. The Deficit would be more than half of GDP. Since the money ‘creating’ apparatus has come to halt, there cannot be enough lending to cover such huge deficit while US keeps on consuming 1/4th of world resources. With the real GDP, the size of economy might not support debt servicing. Ultimately the manipulated GDP and free market economy is to collapse as it has no real basis. The rescue package might not helpful because of the size of disaster. Change in system might the only alternate, if proposed GM takeover by Workers Union and Chinese corporate succeeds, it might help people to think for a People’s Republic of United States

Video: Americans – Innocent or Stupid

A common American is innocent or stupid, this is  debate topic which we are going to discuss.  It has proven that American administration & its think tanks are superb planners & successful in turning the tables of world politics in favor of USA. 

Simultaneously, on the name of war against terrorism, USA forces are engaged in crusade with Muslims in many countries, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan etc. but it looks that the  common Americans are not aware with what their Govt. is doing in various parts of the world.

The attached video is very good example of their non involvement & indifferent attitude about world problems.Random American’s are picked off the streets to answer general knowledge questions, what were their answers you can find here.

I can’t say this is general population representative or not. But as a nation  I am proud that a common Pakistani is not like them, at least they are aware with what is going on around them. Kindly review it & provide your valuable comments.

White Corolla Case

A reader, Atiq, left a comment on my post about the White Corolla Case and said that he was one of the victims of Ali Mohammad Hajiano. I emailed him asking whether he was interested in doing a guest post about what he had to go through at the hand of this beast and he agreed. Following is the story of Atiq and his wife who were victims at the hand of White Corolla gang. Thankfully they were lucky enough to get away with very little damage compared to some of the other unfortunate victims.

In August 2008 I was living in a rented upper portion in DHA, Phase V on Street 13 off Kh-Muhafiz, where my wife and myself, both 30 year old professionals, lived. The landlord, his wife and three kids lived in the lower portion. There were no servants or guards that lived in the house.

On the night of the 9th or 10th of August me and my wife were returning home from a friends wedding. On the way home we crossed Marina Club and I pointed out to my wife how silly it was for families and couples to be parked at the waterfront at such a late hour with no lights on. As far as I was concerned these people were just looking for trouble and setting themselves up to get robbed.

It was about half past midnight when we got to our gate, and oddly enough we had electricity in the area. I stopped the car in front of the gate, but left the engine running. I got out of the car and walked the six or seven steps to the gate. I'd already fully opened the gate and was walking back to the car when a white corolla pulled up, the driver window opened and a pistol pointed at me. The driver was the animal that has now been identified as Ali Hajiano.

When I saw the pistol, the first thought that went through my mind was "oh shit" and I quickly thought of the things I was likely to lose - my wallet, my cell phone (a Nokia N91), my wife's cell phone (a brand new HTC Touch) and maybe, possibly, my car, a silver Vitz. Both cell phones were in one front pocket of my pants, and my wallet was in my back pocket. As we were coming back from a wedding, I was wearing a suit with a tie and my wife was wearing fancy clothes, but no jewelry apart from her wedding ring. I expected a robbery lasting one minute or less, and anticipated giving my cell and wallet away and then seeing the car drive off in a quick rush. In my mind I quickly wondered if I could somehow keep the HTC Touch hidden as it was really slim and not very visible, and decided that I would at least try. The thought of losing my life entered my mind for just a second so I said a quick Kalima and asked Allah to forgive my sins -just in case. Once that was done, losing my life didn't really worry me all that much.

Hard to believe that so many thought went through my mind in two seconds, but thats exactly what happened as I stood staring at the pistol staring back. The situation on the ground was that the house gate was open and a bit of a triangle had formed. I was standing directly in front of the gate with my back towards the house. The white corolla was about 8 feet away, a little to the left. My own car was about 6 feet away on my right. Both the cars had about 10 feet between them. A quick calculation told me that I had no chance of running to my car, getting in and driving off without being shot dead.

Ali Hajiano again waved the pistol at me and asked me to approach him. His conversation was in Urdu, but I'll translate it for the ease of the reader. He simply said "empty out everything" at which I reached into my back pocket, grabbed my wallet and handed it over to him. Without being asked I also put my hand into my left pocket and took out my Nokia N91, but was careful to leave the HTC Touch untouched. He took my wallet and put it on his dashboard, had a look at my Nokia and handed it back to me saying "you can keep this". I guess it wasn't up to his standard. Deciding to act unafraid, I asked him if I could have my NIC and driving license back if he didn't need it. He asked me how much money was in the wallet, I replied that I wasn't sure but around two or three thousand. He looked through the wallet, took out all the cash and then handed the wallet back to me. I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that I'd gotten off easy and cheap.

I turned to walk away when Hajiano said "Not so fast, slowly walk to your car and sit inside". Oh shit I thought, this isn't over yet. I went and sat in the car and told my wife to stay calm. Hajiano came over to my side and pointed the pistol at me again. His bitch, who we now know as the mechanic Umair, walked around the car to stand at the passenger side window where my wife sat. They again asked us for valuables but we didn't have any so we told them that. My wife had dropped her wedding ring on the car floor, and her cell was in my pocket but not visible. Umair started checking the various compartments of the car on the passenger side while Hajiano started to check the compartments on my side. When he patted the pocket with both the mobiles he asked me what was in the pocket. I told him it was my mobile and took out the N91, again leaving the HTC inside. I handed it over to him and said, "I already told you I only have this mobile, you can have it".

He took the mobile, highly annoyed, and threw it as far as he could down the road saying "what am I supposed to do with this?" They could not understand how we were dressed for a wedding but had didnt have any jewelry. I explained to him how we'd been robbed a month before and lost all our jewelry.

Hajiano asked what valuables we had in the house and I assume he meant to ask about jewels and cash. My wife didn't understand and started to tell him about the TV, VCR, DVD player, Fridge, AC etc. That was actually amusing. He asked again, this time specifying that he was asking about cash and gold. I told him that we didn't have anything like that in the house, but if he wanted he could take the house key, go inside and take whatever he wanted. In the meantime Umair tried to grab my wife's hand and feet to check for gold. She started shouting and slapping his hand which made him a bit apprehensive so he stood back. Hajiano then said that he'd go up to the house to check for valuables but he wanted to take my wife upstairs to show him where they were. I had never heard about the white corolla case till that time so I was a bit startled. I assumed it was just to threaten me, I had no idea that he was really a rapist. But even then I knew fully well what
animals men become when alone with a woman so I absolutely put my foot down.

I told Hajiano "She's not going anywhere. You can take the house keys and go upstairs yourself. If you want the car, you can take the keys and we'll just walk away. If you want money, we'll go to the ATM and give you money". He tried to negotiate with her to go upstairs again and again but I held my ground. Finally he got irritated and told Umair "take the girl out" then he said to me "We're taking the girl, when you have money you can contact us". Umair said "Now we'll take the girl and you can go lodge an FIR"

This was fast turning into a nightmare. My mind suddenly flooded with ideas and thoughts about what I should do. Should I let them go easily and then try to follow them? No way. If I let them take her, I should just as well go upstairs and go to sleep and forget that I ever had a wife. There was no way I was going to let them take her. At the same time I remember clearly praying to God "God, if this is a test or a punishment, I'm sorry for my mistakes, please stop this right now". I grabbed my wife's hand and said "dont go", then I turned around to Hajiano and said "She's not going anywhere".

Umair had by this time told my wife to get out of the car. When she refused he showed her the gun and said "It's real" and then just to drive the point home he took out the magazine and showed her the bullets. She refused to budge so he grabbed her hand and started pulling her out physically. Hajiano started thrusting the pistol in my face and screaming "I'll blow your brains out, you want to die?" I turned to Hajiano and said "Don't do this, we've given you everything, we don't have anything else, if you want you can follow us to the ATM, I can give you another 20,000 . He replied by telling me to shut up and smacking the revolver on the back of my head.

I'm a pretty big guy, 5 Œ10 in height and 100 kg in weight. He probably felt he needed to subdue me so he started hitting me repeatedly on the head and neck with the pistol butt. Some hits were bearable big thuds, but at time when the metal hit my skull I would see stars. While I was getting smashed on the head Umair kept trying to pull my wife out. Thankfully she was resisting and kept telling him to let go in a loud voice, but not a scream. He realized he was not strong enough to pull her out with one hand so he passed his pistol over the roof of the car to Hajiano and then grabbed her wrist with both his hands. At that moment my blood started to curl and desperation set in as the adrenaline rushed and pumped. I thought about smashing the door open and hoped it would knock Hajiano down long enough for me to overpower him. But the constant pistol butt blows to my head kept that thought from evolving into anything concrete.

Umair had by now managed to pull my wife out of the car and was dragging her to the back of the car to put her in the corolla. My wife realized that Umair was without a pistol and at that point she stopped talking loudly and started screaming. Thank God she was in her senses and did just the right thing. Along with screaming she sat down on the road to make it harder for Umair to drag her. Sensing that things were not going smoothly Hajiano started to yell at him to hurry up. Then he sensed that things we're getting out of control so he gave an extra hard blow of the pistol butt to the back of my head. That hit actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it hit me so hard that my head flew forwards and hit the steering wheel, causing the horn to blare. I realized the value immediately and the next time he hit me I again banged my head into the horn, this time on purpose - He stopped hitting me immediately and instead shoved the pistol barrel
on to my temple.

Hajiano knew the horns and the screams would attract attention. He stepped backwards till he reached and sat down in his car but kept the pistol pointed at me and screamed at Umair to hurry up. I realized that he was gone so I raised my head and looked in the passenger side rear view mirror to see my wife sitting on the road, pulling herself away while Umair tried to drag her to the corolla. At that point in time I decided that there was no way in hell that I was going to let my wife go while I was alive. The car was still on and I decided that if Umair managed to drag my wife to the back of the car I would put the car in reverse and run him over. I realized that possibly my wife would get run over too but I thought that it was a better option for me to run her over and take a chance on killing her than to let her be taken, assaulted and then killed for sure. I also realized that Hajiano had his gun pointed at me but I figured that at ten feet I at least had a chance. My mind replayed the course of events that I wanted to do - reverse car, run over Umair, put car in first gear, point car at corolla and ram him as hard as possible. In my mind I was hoping this would give my wife enough time to run away while taking away Hajiano's ability to chase her in a car. I also hoped that if I rammed his car hard enough and survived, I might dazzle him long enough to get out of my car and attack him myself.

While these thoughts played in my mind, my wife kept screaming loudly. Umair had managed to pull her to the back tyre. It was almost time to put the car in reverse and risk both her and my life. La-ila-ha-ill-Allah… and just then the miracle happened. Hajiano screamed to Umair "Let her go, lets go! Quickly!" He must have decided that the encounter had lasted too long, and too much noise had been made. Umair was only too happy to hear the order, he let go of her immediately and ran to the corolla. My wife got up just as quickly and came back into the car, sat on the front passenger side and locked her door. Hajiano screamed at us to keep our heads down. I told my wife to keep as far down as she could, and bent over, but in a way that I could see out as well. I saw the corolla drive by and quickly sat up. I tried to read the number plate but couldn't.

I put the car in gear, just incase they came back and I needed to race off but they didn't. When I saw their car lights leave the street I quickly put the car into the porch and locked the gates. We ran into the house and locked the doors. I left my wife upstairs and told her to keep the doors locked no matter what. Then I ran downstairs, checked left and right from the gate and ran over to where my mobile had been thrown. Picked it up and ran upstairs again, making sure to lock the gates and doors on the way.

We didn't bother reporting the matter to the police. One of my wife's poorer distant relatives was a police constable in Karachi and we told him. He replied that the attackers could have been policemen themselves. We'd also heard enough tales of policemen turning thugs at night and of policemen that took money from thugs to give them information. Our friends warned us that telling the police would invite even more trouble. Over the next few days we started hearing more stories of the white corolla. Whenever they were mentioned people would tell their own stories or stories of people that they knew. That's the first time I realized that the white corolla people were notoriously well known in Karachi.

But I'm thankful to God that I was spared the agony that other men and women have faced. I also learnt some lessons. Never take things for granted. Never believe that something horrible wont happen to you because it only happens to people in newspapers. Never give up on things you believe in, fight and take a stand because that's the only hope you have in hell of surviving when the shit hits the fan. Putting up a resistance saved my marriage, my wife and my life. In a nutshell, I truly believe now more than ever that you have to stand your ground and fight for things that matter that it's better to die like a man than to live like a coward.

As far as Hajiano, his father and Umair are concerned, I've made my views clear. Publicly castrate them, slowly. Inject acid into them. Drag them around Karachi naked and tied to the back of the same corolla. Have them raped by donkeys. Put Red ants up their asses. Hammer nails into their eyes. Torture them in the most degrading and chillingly painful ways possible and make such an example of them that the world remembers. They should never be killed, instead the three of them should be tortured every single day for the rest of their lives. My heart bleeds for the poor women that were unfortunate enough not to get away. Their loss can not be replaced but by making a public example of these animals we can hopefully reduce the number of times such a crime is repeated.

And if these animals are ever released, I swear to God I will personally join, hire and train taliban and help them to kill the judges, policemen and politicians involved
